Jubilee Insurance Launches iPMI For Expatriates, High Net-Worth Clients

In this iPMI plans and products article, international private medical insurance market analyst and report author Ian Youngman, looks at news that Jubilee Insurance has launched international private medical insurance cover for high net worth individuals and expatriates.

  • Jubilee Insurance has a premium international private medical insurance cover targeting expatriates and high net-worth individuals, who frequently travel abroad in a bid to ensure they receive top-tier medical care in any part of the globe.
  • According to data from the Ministry of Health, more than 10,000 Kenyans seek medical treatment outside the country each year.
  • Additionally, it is estimated that Kenyans spend Sh15 billion per year on overseas treatment.
  • It is administered by Henner Group and re-insured by Allianz.
  • The policy provides medical expenses solutions for hospitalisation, 24/7 emergency assistance services, as well as specialised treatments in 185 countries.
  • The product name is ‘Care and Health.’
  • The cover marks a shift from traditional health insurance plans as it eliminates limits on pre-existing and chronic illnesses, ensuring that cover holders with these conditions are fully covered.
  • The insurance covers medical expense bills to the limits of up to $4.5 million with the insurer saying this will enable individuals to undergo elective procedures, receive specialised treatment as well as access routine healthcare services.
  • The target is millions of Kenyans and expatriates.
  • Jubilee has a new intuitive online platform where intermediaries will generate quotations at their convenience in a feature set to streamline the insurance process by enabling the agents to provide personalised quotes to clients swiftly and efficiently.
  • Last year, the insurer launched a five-year project dubbed ‘Changamk@’ that will see it spend Sh2.25 billion on digital transformation, including investing in robotics, Artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics as it lays the ground for the introduction of customised covers.

  • The new IPMI partnership replaces the deal with Bupa.
  • The Bupa deal offered IPMI in five other African countries.
  • So, it is highly likely that IPMI will be offered in other African countries.
  • At the time of the Allianz Sanlam deal Allianz said it had no plans to offer health insurance in all countries.
  • With this deal, Allianz is at one remove, acting as reinsurer, with IPMI administered by Henner.
